Editing or deleting clients and loans, and the trash
You can correct a client's or a loan's details at any time. When you delete a client or a loan from the app, it isn't erased right away: it goes to the trash for 30 days. This page explains how it works and how to get it back.
Edit a client
- Open the Clients tab and tap the client.
- Change what you need: Customer Name, Phone number, email, Identification Number, Description and photos.
- Tap Save.
Edit a loan
- Open the loan and tap its card to see the Options.
- Tap Edit Loan.
- Make your changes and save.
To edit loans you need a paid plan (Essential, Professional or Business) or the 60-day trial. Without an active plan, Edit Loan shows a lock and takes you to the plans screen.
What you can and can't change, even if the loan already has payments:
- Can't be changed: the client, the currency and the payment frequency.
- Amount: the field shows today's outstanding balance, not the original amount.
- Can be changed: the interest, the dates (start, end and first payment), the preferred payment day and the loan type. The loan type can't be changed on a tablet or on Loyalty accounts.
- Late fees: when you edit, the late-fee section shows that loan's own settings (Enable Late Fee, percentage and grace days), not your defaults. You can change them or turn them off. See Late fees.
If you change the loan type, we ask you to confirm with Change loan type?: future installments are recalculated using today's outstanding balance as the new principal, and payments you already recorded don't change.
A loan that is in the trash can't be edited.
Delete a client or a loan
- Client: open the client from Clients and tap the red Delete button at the bottom of the form.
- Loan: in the loan's Options, tap Delete.
We show Move Customer to Trash or Move Loan to Trash. Tap Move to Trash to confirm.
Moving something to the trash doesn't delete its payments or photos. Right after, a notice appears with an Undo button: tap it if you made a mistake and you'll see Customer restored or Loan restored.
If you work in Team, only the owner or an admin can delete clients and loans. An agent can edit them but not delete them. Collectors and viewers can't edit them. When a member moves something to the trash, the owner and admins get a notification.
The trash
- Anything you move to the trash can be restored for 30 days. After that it's permanently deleted; cleanup doesn't happen exactly on day 30, but don't count on recovering it after that period.
- The app has no trash screen for clients and loans. To recover something in the app, use Undo in the notice right after deleting it.
- With the Business plan, the owner or an admin can restore it from the web: on loanadmin.app open Team → Trash, section Clients and loans, and tap Restore.
- If you don't have Business and need to recover something you deleted, open a ticket as soon as possible from the menu (☰) → Help & Support → Create ticket, within the 30 days.
Team → Trash also holds members you removed from the team: they stay for 30 days without using a seat, and from there you can restore them or tap Delete permanently.
On the web
On the web, deleting a loan works the same as in the app: it isn't removed right away, it goes to the trash. From the Loans list or the loan detail, tap Delete (or the trash icon) and confirm with Move to trash. The loan and its payments are kept for 30 days. Right after, you see Loan moved to trash with an Undo button; tap it and you'll see Loan restored. With the Business plan you can also restore it from Team → Trash.
There's no option to delete a client on the web: do it from the app. Anything you move to the trash from the app (clients or loans) can be restored on the web from Team → Trash with the Business plan. If you need a copy of your data, open the ⋯ menu in the client detail and tap Request my data: we'll email it to you.
